Switching over#

BB Snippets uses the same records as Simple Custom CSS and JS PRO: the custom-css-js post type and its options, urls, _active and _slug meta. Nothing is exported, imported or re-saved.

Requirements#

  • WordPress 6.0 or later, PHP 7.4 or later.
  • wp-content/cache/bb-snippets writable by PHP (the compiled manifest; an option is the fallback).
  • wp-content/uploads/custom-css-js writable by PHP (linked files).

Switch#

  1. Install and activate BB Snippets. While Simple Custom CSS and JS is active, BB Snippets stays paused and shows a notice, so the two never print the same snippet twice.
  2. Deactivate Simple Custom CSS and JS. BB Snippets builds its manifest from the existing snippets and prints them on the same pages, in the same order, with the same markup.
  3. Check a few pages with Snippets → Tools → Test a URL, or wp bb-snippets test-url /some/page/.

Administrators get the snippet capabilities on activation if they do not have them yet. The "Web Designer" role and its capabilities, if the old plugin created them, carry over.

Switch back#

Deactivate BB Snippets and reactivate Simple Custom CSS and JS. While BB Snippets runs it keeps the old plugin's two options (custom-css-js-tree, custom-css-js-urls) and its files current, so the old plugin prints correctly at once, without an admin save.

Fields only BB Snippets understands (environments, expiry, owner, notes) stay in _bb_snippet meta, which the old plugin ignores: environment-limited and expired snippets print again under the old plugin.

What carries over unchanged#

Item Notes
Snippets Code, title, status, active flag
Settings Language, position, linking, sides, order, minify
Rules All nine rule types, evaluated the same way
Shortcodes [ccj id="…"] HTML snippets, without PHP execution
Plugin settings Shared ccj_settings option: comment removal, preview lifetime, Web Designer role
Revisions Core revisions; settings and rules are stored on each new revision

SASS and LESS snippets compile with the same library versions the old plugin bundles (scssphp 1.13.0, less.php 4.4.1), so they produce the same CSS. Partials (the old plugin's "file name" for import-only snippets) are written to uploads/custom-css-js as before. None is in use on coalesce.io.

Theme file snippets and the settings only BB Snippets has (registered output, a snippet's Loading setting) do not carry over to the old plugin: theme files are left out of its options, and its own output ignores the rest.
